Subscribers cancel when skipping one bag is a pain. Make staying easy.
A subscriber is going on vacation. They want to skip one bag. The only way is to email you, so they cancel instead. We set up subscriptions your customers run themselves: skip a delivery, pause for a while, or update their card, all from their own account.
What it looks like on a normal day
You are a roaster with a subscription. Or a shop that sells refills. Or anyone who ships the same thing every few weeks. The pain is the same.
A customer still has half a bag in the cupboard. They want to skip one delivery. There is no button for that, so they email you. You see it two days later, after the bag already shipped.
Another customer is moving. Another one's card expired. Another wants a break for the summer. Each one is an email, a login to your admin, and a change you make by hand.
Some people do not bother to email. When the only choice they can find is cancel, they press cancel. That is a customer who liked your coffee and just needed a week off.
The coffee is not the problem. The buttons are.
What it costs you
Not a number. We do not have your subscriber list, and we will not make one up. But you can name the costs yourself.
- Subscribers you did not need to lose. Someone who wanted to skip one bag is gone for good.
- Your time. Every skip, pause, new address and new card is a message you answer and a change you make.
- Bags that should not have shipped. A skip you read too late is a bag you roasted, packed and paid to ship.
- Awkward emails. Charging someone who asked to pause is a quick way to lose them.
Signing up is the easy part. The trouble starts a few months in, when life gets in the way. That is the part we set up properly.
What fixing it looks like
Your customers get their own page for their subscription. They make the common changes without writing to you. Those changes stop landing in your inbox, and customers get a way to stay instead of a reason to leave.
What we would set up for you:
- Subscriptions with Shopify's own subscriptions app. Your delivery schedules, like every 2, 4 or 6 weeks, show on the product page next to the one-time option.
- A page where customers manage it. They sign in with their email. Then they can skip a delivery, pause, cancel, or update their card and address. No email to you needed.
- A link to that page where they look for it. In the menu, in the footer, and next to the subscription on the product page, so nobody has to hunt.
- A subscribe page, if you want one. One short form: pick a coffee, a grind and how often. It is an extra page, so we quote it in writing.
- The same plans everywhere. The product page, the cart and any subscribe page all read the same plans in Shopify, so they never disagree.
People ask about swapping to a different coffee too. What customers can change on their own depends on the subscription app, so we check it on the call and tell you straight what it can and cannot do.
Our standard store package for roasters includes subscriptions with Shopify's own subscriptions app: up to 3 delivery schedules, and customers skip, pause or cancel on their own. Already have a store? Start with a free store check: the subscribe option is one of the things we look at. More on online stores for roasters.
Proof
We set this up for Barista Plus Coffee, a Dallas roaster. Customers pick a coffee, a grind and one of four delivery schedules, on the product page or on the subscribe page. They skip, pause or cancel from their own account, without emailing anyone. The link to that account sits in the menu, the footer and next to the subscription on each product page.
That store opened to the public on September 26, 2026, so it is too new to say how many subscribers stay. What we can show you is the build.
Honest limits
- Easy managing makes staying easy. It cannot make someone love the coffee or drink more of it. We will not promise how many subscribers you keep.
- Skip, pause and cancel come from Shopify's own subscriptions app. What customers can change is what that app allows. If you need more, like swapping coffees, we tell you which app does it and what it costs, and you decide.
- Moving live subscribers from another app is quoted separately, and we tell you the risks first.
- If your subscribers already manage everything themselves and rarely email you, you do not need this page.
Questions people ask
Can customers skip a delivery without emailing me?
Yes. They sign in to their account with their email and skip, pause or cancel there. You still see every subscription in your Shopify admin.
Do I need a separate subscription app?
Not for what is on this page. We use Shopify's own subscriptions app. If you need something it cannot do, we tell you before you pay for anything else.
Can my current subscribers move over?
Sometimes. We look at your setup first. Moving live subscribers is quoted separately, and we tell you the risks before we start.
Can customers swap to a different coffee?
It depends on the subscription app. We check what yours can do on the call and tell you straight.
